My work allows me to combine the foundation of BEING CREATIVE and the interests of BUSINESS and TECHNOLOGY.

DAY IN AND DAY OUT

A great day at work starts with collaboration - where I work there are many talented people but we are all different and we know we work better together. When we start a new engagement with a customer, we like to get together to find out how much we know about them already, based on previous experiences or research. We then identify how we can help them by leveraging existing information or spending some time in their offices, discovering ways to improve their world, with the help of tech.

SKILLS, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE NEEDED

First of all you need an open mindset - this means that you accept the fact that we continuously learn as things constantly change around us. This also enables one to stay always curious and open to new ways of approaching resolutions to problems we get confronted with in our business.
Experience with presenting to various types of audiences is required, as sometimes you have to present to the CEO or technical team of a large company and be confident in your delivery and proposition.

SOME HELPFUL FIRST STEPS FOR SOMEONE IN HIGH SCHOOL

Try a part time job or volunteering in an environment that is customer facing, where you need to use technology/communication skills in order to provide solutions for different problems or challenges people may have. I had various summer jobs when I was in school, I was a waitress, a toothbrush street seller or I was helping organisations collect data for research during my summer holidays. In my final year of school I took a part time job in a call centre, it was so useful to start my career.

HURDLES I OVERCAME

THE “NOISE” FROM PEOPLE

“You will never succeed, you are not good enough, nobody else has managed to do this, what makes you think it will be you? You don't deserve such a good job. You have to work at least 10 more years to get that role. You are too young to get paid well.”

HOW I OVERCAME THE “NOISE”

I made a decision to be the only person responsible for the consequences of my life choices. I knew that if I would have done whatever anyone else was telling me to do or not to do, it would have been me who would have had to live that life, not anyone else. It's also important to enjoy the freedom of doing what you want with feedback you receive, sometimes it's constructive and well documented, other times it's the result of frustration or negativity. Choose your mentors and enjoy your life.
